FAQ
I have an internship/wedding/emergency, etc. Can I start classes late?
Unfortunately you cannot arrive late. Students who have not checked in with the International Students and Scholars (ISSS)office by the time classes begin will be required by the U.S. government to go back to their home country.
Can I take accountancy courses during my exchange?
Unfortunately, only students from Nanyang University, who have a direct agreement with our Accountancy Department, are allowed to take classes in Accountancy.
When do I register for classes?
You will register for classes after you arrive. Jennifer Frank will assist you with registering. As soon as she tells you that there is a space for you in a class, you should register on our online system, so that you do not lose the space.
There is a class that I must take in order to graduate. How can I guarantee that I can get a space in that course?
We will do our best to assist you in getting into that class, but because we have such demand from students at the University of Illinois, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to get into any particular class.
What are the student fees that I will have to pay?
See the fees on our Fact Sheet.
What if I forget to drop a class that I registered for but never attended?
Then a failing grade will be included on your transcript. Most likely, this will show up on your home university transcript as a failing grade. As you will find out once you are here, there is an overwhelming demand for our business classes, so if you forget to drop a class, you will be keeping someone else from getting a spot.

For all other students, w e will now accept either the TOEFL or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to determine admission eligibility.

The following minimum IELTS (academic test) scores can be used to determine admission eligibility as well. Note that minimums have been set for the overall test and for each of four modules composing the IELTS exam (Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading):
- Minimum Total score for admission: 6.5, including a minimum subscore of 6 on all four modules. Students receiving scores below 7 will be required to take the English as a Second Language Placement Test (EPT) for placement in ESL courses.
- Minimum Total score for exemption from English as a Second Language Placement Test (EPT) for admission: 7, including a minimum subscore of 6 on all four modules.
- Minimum Total score below 6.5, or any individual module score of less than 6, will require departmental justification for admission on limited status, in addition to the ESL EPT requirement.
